FreePint Report: Commentary from Online Information 2008

978-1-904769-38-5
Published January 2009
Total pages: 28

From the introduction:

"In December 2008, FreePint had the pleasure of exhibiting at Online Information. This was the 11th year we've exhibited at the show, which has become one of our key events -- an opportunity to meet with supporters, contributors, subscribers and even our own far-flung team.

As FreePint has changed over the years, we've also seen the event itself change. Certainly we have our own ideas about the nature of that change. But the FreePint approach has always been to turn to our members for their impressions. We pull together in this report, the contributions of a range of Online visitors, each bringing their particular experience to their commentary."

VIP Report: Commentary from ebic... Imagine 2008

978-1-904769-3504
Published October 2008
Total pages: 23

From the introduction:

"Early October 2008 saw the return of a respected industry event in a new guise: TFPL hosted ebic 2008 at Berlin's Kempinski Hotel Bristol, bringing together an intriguing mix of senior-level information professionals, industry innovators, knowledge and learning managers and other thought-leaders in the information world. Both traditional and alternative information career pathways were represented, and the two-day agenda gave the delegates opportunities to explore issues in depth – everything from the workplace of the future to the role of information in social action.

To report on the event, we chose an approach we first developed earlier in 2008, to cover the SLA annual conference in Seattle, Washington: We went directly to delegates, asking them to contribute what they felt was most important to them about the experience. During and immediately following ebic, we provided delegates with opportunities to comment, via a printed leaflet or online form, email, voice mail or fax. We then organised and edited contributions for clarity, had them approved by their authors, and pulled them together by topic and theme to reflect back to delegates and the larger industry."

VIP Report: Commentary from SLA's 2008 Annual Conference

978-1-904769-33-0
Published July 2008
Total pages: 27

From the introduction:

"SLA launched a forward-looking initiative, with increased emphasis on using new tools like Twitter to comment on the event as it was happening and enhance the experience. We too decided that this was a year to experiment. Rather than take our usual path of having our editors, readers and supporters write summaries of conference sessions and overall reviews of the event, we decided to break apart the mould of conference reporting. We asked everyone we met at the event – old friends as well as complete strangers – to contribute to this report."
