OneSource PRESENTS young ‘INFORMATION PROFESSIONAL’ achiever award at the Third Annual International Information Awards
London, 20 December 2005 – OneSource Information Services, an infoUSA (NASDAQ: IUSA) company, presented Ben Lund, 27, a product development manager at Nature Publishing Group with the Annalie Vickers and Jeremy Lakin Young Achiever Award at the third annual International Information Awards on 30 November. Created by OneSource in honour of the two employees who were victims of a bombing while visiting Egypt earlier this year, the winner of the award had to demonstrate a significant contribution in improving the quality of information products and how they are applied with an organization to increase efficiency. In addition, the winner had to demonstrate enthusiasm, commitment, persistence and teamwork.
At Nature, Ben has led the day-to-day management and the development of an innovative reference management and social bookmarking service, Connotea (http://www.connotea.org/), which aims to make it easier for information professionals to search and cross reference published materials from online archives and publisher sites across the web. He secured several thousands of pounds' worth of funding from the UK Joint Information Systems Committee (JISC) to integrate Connotea functionality into EPrints, a software package for creating and managing institutional repositories.
On his acceptance of the award, Ben said, “I am deeply honored to receive such a special award and was particularly touched that the parents of the Awards namesakes wanted to meet me.”
He added that he would “continue to look at ways that online tools make it easier for information professionals to find the information they need online and interconnect disparate information sources as well as help scientists make the most of what the web brings to publishing.”
Paul Brown, VP of EMEA at OneSource Information Services Ltd said, “We were very pleased to sponsor this award in memory of two very dear colleagues and friends and that the award was won by someone who demonstrated so well the qualities of enthusiasm, commitment and persistence that made Annalie and Jeremy such valued team members of OneSource.”
Ben has a degree in biological anthropology from the University of Cambridge. He joined Nature Publishing Group four years ago as a web-site co-coordinator. He was a New Technology Developer until his recent promotion to Web Publishing Product Development Manager.
ENDS.
