The Economist Chooses RightsLink for Copyright Permissions on its Blogs

Deal Marks Copyright Clearance Center’s First Blog Implementation of its Point-of-Content Licensing Solution

Copyright Clearance Center, Inc. (CCC), a not-for-profit organization and leading provider of licensing solutions, has announced that The Economist has chosen RightsLink, CCC’s seamless point-of-content licensing solution, to handle online copyright permissions on its more than 20 blogs.

RightsLink enables rightsholders to offer re-use and other permissions at the point-of-content wherever the content resides, whether on a website, mobile application or third-party aggregator.  The Economist agreement marks CCC’s first blog implementation of RightsLink.

“The Economist has built an excellent relationship with CCC as we’ve been using RightsLink for years,” Rebecca Cogswell, Syndication & Licensing Director, The Economist.  “The ability to monetize our blog content seemed the logical next step as we continue working closely to create a bespoke and highly intuitive RightsLink system which maximizes our staff input and sales.”

“Content licensing isn’t new but it’s playing a bigger role as publishers diversify their digital revenue streams and find new ways to monetize content,” said Diane Pierson, Vice President, Marketing, CCC.  “The Economist’s implementation of RightsLink on its blogs demonstrates that publishers of all types, serving a variety of markets, can benefit from RightsLink’s licensing capabilities.”

Part of The Economist Group, The Economist online offers authoritative insight and opinion on international news, politics, business, finance, science and technology.
