The Daily Telegraph wins British Press Team Award, sponsored by LexisNexis UK
The Daily Telegraph news team last night received a major industry accolade for its comprehensive coverage of the Iraq War. The 2004 Team award, part of the annual prestigious British Press Awards, is sponsored by LexisNexis UK, the leading provider of legal, tax, news and business information.
The British Press Awards is the foremost award event in the national newspaper calendar. Alec Russell's winning team included John Keegan; Oliver Poole; Patrick Bishop; Jack Fairweather and David Blair, were singled out by the judges for "a very assured use of graphics and photography." and "...a tremendous example of team work through all disciplines..."
The Daily Telegraph team award was presented by Phillip Hamilton Lee of LexisNexis UK at the Park Lane Hilton event, hosted by BBC journalist Michael Buerk.
The full shortlist for the Team Award was as follows:
Daily Telegraph: coverage of the Iraq War
Independent on Sunday: coverage of the Iraq War
Sun: coverage of the Soham trial
Daily Mirror: coverage of the Soham trial
Sun: Domestic Violence Campaign
Sunday Mail: Crime Inc. Investigation Team
Previous Team winners have included the Mirror for coverage of the Omagh bomb in 1999, and the Guardian in 1997 for the Neil Hamilton affair.
Dominic Riley, Strategic Marketing Director at LexisNexis UK, says: "It is appropriate that we sponsor this award as all national journalists use the LexisNexis service for its comprehensive database of primary news sources. In a world of information overload, separating the crucial nuggets from the superfluous can make a big difference in beating the opposition to a deadline. The British Press Awards are a tribute to the excellence of news reporting we have in the UK."
