Freedom Of Information Act demands TARGETED by latest
FRETWELL-DOWNING INFORMATICS solutions
Over 100,000 organisations and agencies across England, Wales and Scotland are mandated to comply with the requirements of the Freedom Of Information Act 2000. The requirements of the act throw the spotlight on information strategy, opening up public access to internal information and actively promoting availability of previously hidden facts and figures.
From the 1st January 2005, enquiries from the public must be answered within 20 days of receipt. This leaves only 10 months left for organisations to bring transparency to their information and data.
FDI has responded to this challenge with the release of OLIB 7.4, the latest version of its proven library management solution. New features have been included that are designed to meet the demands of the Freedom Of Information Act and support developments in corporate governance. OLIB 7.4 will be on show for the first time at the Library and Information Show 2004 in April.
OLIB 7.4 makes it easier to offer controlled, eGMS standards based access to all internal, networked resources and to ensure that knowledge is available, where and when it is needed. Improvements to the existing enquiry management module make it easier to manage incoming requests and build a knowledge base to support best practice in future. More routes for publishing information and new methods for pushing information directly to users on a personal basis give users more control over what information they receive, and how they receive it.
With OLIB 7.4 in operation, organisations can put in place the following services as evidence of their adherence to the Freedom Of Information Act:
· Record enquiries taken and monitor response times
· Increase options for linking users to their electronic resources
· Personalise service delivery for users via the desktop
· Offer more options to push information direct to users
· Easily handle metadata for all types of internal files and information
· Automatically generate metadata from existing file properties details
· Implement the Government Category List subject headings and auto-assign headings

OLIB 7.4 also delivers in excess of 100 enhancements and workflow improvements which will benefit the 200+ existing OLIB customers, who include libraries from all sectors of the marketplace.
Publicly-funded organisations from government departments and agencies, local authorities and the NHS are at the forefront of this change, but it is also applicable to other sectors, including further education colleges.
