Following their recent online reference poll, xrefer is delighted
to announce that Who’s Who from A&C Black publishers is the title that received the most votes from participants worldwide, making it the most popular work of reference according to their poll.
The poll, which was set up to tie in with World Book Day on March 4th, invited readers to vote for their favourite or most-used work of reference in the xreferplus database, selecting from hundreds of titles across 21 topics from a variety of publishers and authors. Other titles that received a high number of votes were Brewer’s Dictionary of Phrase & Fable from Cassell, the Collins Bilingual Dictionaries and the Hutchinson Encyclopedia. A full list of titles in the xreferplus database can be viewed at http://www.xrefer.com/titles.
Jonathan Glasspool of A&C Black publishers said of the result:
"The fact that Who’s Who was the clear winner in this poll is a
telling sign that if there’s one thing that interests people
worldwide, it’s other people, and other famous (or infamous)
people in particular. We are delighted that one of our
bestselling titles has shown itself to be so popular in this
poll."
Adam Hodgkin, xrefer’s President, said:
"This was a very valuable exercise for us, as it has provided
us with an international snapshot of some of the most valued and popular titles in our service. Congratulations to Who’s Who and A&C Black on their win."
