NOMINATIONS FOR THE CILIP CARNEGIE AND KATE GREENAWAY MEDALS ANNOUNCED
The nominations for the UK’s most prestigious children’s book awards are published today on the award website www.ckg.org.uk
The CILIP Carnegie Medal, for an outstanding book for children and young people, has received 39 nominations while its companion award the Kate Greenaway Medal (awarded for illustration) has received 37.
The nominations have been made by members of CILIP: the Chartered Institute of Library and Information Professionals either as individuals or via a regional group. Many nominated titles have already been the subject of rigorous debate in CILIP's Youth Libraries Group or local library authority selection meetings up and down the country.
The judging panel of 12 children’s and young people’s librarians will now read and assess every title before deciding the shortlists, which will be announced on 30 April.
Meanwhile, nearly 1,500 reading groups in school and public libraries are gearing up shadow the judging process. They will be reading the titles and sending their reviews to the award website from May until the announcement of the winners on 9 July.
