The current economic climate has taken its toll on one of the professional associations for information professionals, with the news that because it has been unable to build up sufficient financial reserves to see it through the recession, the Society of Competitive Intelligence Professionals (SCIP) http://www.scip.org has agreed upon a merger with the Frost & Sullivan Institute (FSI) http://www.frost.com.
A high proportion of SCIP’s budget has traditionally been generated by profits from the annual conference and education programs and employers have been restricting travel and cutting training budgets, extending a trend that has existed for several years. The merger create financial security for the association, and to provide it with the ability to maintain and grow its membership, value to members, and expand the visibility of competitive intelligence to a larger audience.
FSI is a non-profit institute dedicated to providing research into planet health, leveraging Frost & Sullivan's research databases, and brand name.
Stage one of the merger has been completed with the membership vote that approved the merger option. Voting closed on May 15 with 94 percent of the voting members approving the merger. The functions and services to seek potential synergies that can merge with FSI
SCIP’s name and brand will continue to be used after the merger and SCIP’s code of ethics will remain in place.
